CASE STUDY
Client: Westmorland and Furness Council
Cumbria Health and Wellbeing and the Economic Threat of Inactivity

GC Insight was commissioned to explore health and wellbeing and the economic threat of economic inactivity in Cumbria, working on behalf of Westmorland and Furness Council in partnership with Enterprising Cumbria and Cumberland Council. The study sought to understand the different dimensions of economic inactivity in Cumbria, the reasons for inactivity, the demographics of people who are economically inactive, and the economic cost of this.

Our Role:

  • We conducted extensive engagement with strategic and delivery partners in addition to engaging with those who are economically inactive to explore the lived experience
  • Our team completed comprehensive baseline analysis to explore the scale and characteristics of inactivity in Cumbria
  • Modelling of the economic cost of economic inactivity was completed using the PHE model
  • We established recommendations for policy and interventions

Outcome:

Our work is being used to inform the Get Cumbria Working Plan, local economic strategies, and inform the development of targeted interventions. The published reports and dashboard from the project can be found here.
